THE BACKGROUND

Case Study:

Holy Cross Hospital

Holy Cross Hospital Hoists Haven for Patients

Holy Cross Hospital is based in Haslemere, Surrey. Established by the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liège as a tuberculosis sanatorium in 1917. Today, following their centenary, the Hospital has evolved to now help people with severe disability and long-term conditions to achieve the best possible quality of life.

The Hospital provides a comfortable, homely environment for 40 patients who are highly dependent, need very detailed care plans, skilled care and treatment.

With an integrated physiotherapy centre, Holy Cross Hospital has a well-equipped gym and hydrotherapy pool able to treat a range of conditions and with an aim to restore patient mobility and independence.

Bringing Astor Bannerman on board, we were able to offer our expertise and provide support to assist the hospital’s transformation. To ensure adequate provisions for patient transfer to support patients and protect their staff against risk of injury, Holy Cross Hospital have commissioned Ceiling Hoists in over 20 bedrooms, a large physiotherapy room, hydrotherapy changing rooms and use of Shower Trolleys in multiple locations.

THE SOLUTION

Holy Cross Hospital, recent winners of the Outstanding CQC rating, requested the installation of product into:

  • Bedroom: Providing over 20 bedrooms with an OT200 Ceiling Hoist with Straight Track enabling staff to traverse patients from bed to chair with ease. The OT200 offers gravity powered charging and a lift capacity of 200kg, reducing risk of injury to staff and making transfer an easy process for patients.
  • Physiotherapy room: To enable patients and staff to have access to the whole room, we installed the OT200 Ceiling Hoist on an XY (H) System. This offers full-room coverage to allow flexible support as patients improve. As the moving rail track spanned 4.5m a 140mm piece of track was used to ensure no track displacement occurred.

TECHNICAL

The Ceiling Hoist System comes in a choice of 90° curves, 45° curves and Straight Track. Available in varying depths suitable for supporting different lengths of track. Our Magnetic Gate is integrated into the tracking system and ensures safe transfer moving from tracking in one room to another. When the two track ends meet, the gate locks them into place and opens a pathway. This allows a smooth, seamless and safe transfer from one room to another.
