THE BACKGROUND

Case Study:

Bespoke Powered Seat For Lifelong Wrexham Fan

Aidan Scott, a 37-year-old with cerebral palsy, had been trying to raise funds for a bathroom that could accommodate his needs. His parents had to sell their family home to buy a flat closer to them in Manchester after cuts to Aidan’s care. However, they were faced with the challenge of adapting the bathroom to make it safe for Aidan, his family, and carers, at a cost of £6,000.

Healthcare Matters approached us with regards to the installation of an assisted bath to support Aidan and his family, and so we got to work in providing our expertise and support in finding the best possible solutions for Aidan and his family.

“This means we can get him carers quicker as well… it’s not just the bath, it’s being able to employ people to look after him and not rely on his dad”

Aidan Scott’s sister, Cheryl.

Key Considerations

Originally, the bath specified to Aidan wasn’t height adjustable, which meant they were at risk of carers refusing to use it, due to the bath being unfit for purpose.

“Together, we then specified a more suitable bath with height adjustability and better functionality as this bath features a chair that can be wheeled out of the bath and the bathroom. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

THE SOLUTION

We installed an Astor Matira Height Adjustable Bath with a powered transfer seat system. As a special touch from us at Astor Bannerman, Aidan’s lifelong love for Wrexham football club was recognized, and a red seat was added to make his bath unique – the only one of its kind in the world.
