What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy (OT) is the process of helping the less able to achieve their full potential and live as independently as possible.
What do OTs do and how can they help?
OTs asses children and adults with physical and mental illnesses and help them to perform everyday tasks that so many of us take for granted such as eating, cooking, washing and bathing by providing advice, tools and the equipment required. From time to time, this can also involve major home adaptations to assist with care and daily living. OTs work in a variety of settings such a hospitals, care homes, schools, the community and many more varied environments providing rehabilitation and ongoing support to find the most suitable solutions based on the clients individual needs.
How to find an OT?
OT referrals can come from your GP or regular care professional so it is advisable to speak to them for advice, or go to your local Council Social Services department. There is also a number of independent OTs throughout the UK who you can contact for assessment.
How does Astor-Bannerman work with OTs?
At Astor-Bannerman, we have proudly worked very closely with OTs for over 20 years and assisted with countless bathroom adaptations building a trusting relationship and promoting products we are passionate about which can aid recovery and assisted living. We are continually invited to home adaptation assessments providing CAD drawings of bathroom layouts and frequently showcase our equipment at group OT team meetings so we can keep everyone fully informed of our latest developments.
We believe that making the right decision really can change lives.
