NEW CHANGING PLACES TOILET AT MANCHESTER CITY FOR 2016/17 SEASON
As part of the Changing Places 10th Anniversary of the campaign and National Changing Places Awareness Day, Manchester City Disabled Supporters Association released the following statement:
“MCDSA are proud to announce that Manchester City will be installing a Changing Places facility in the Ethiad Stadium ready for the 2016/17 season. Full details will be announced later in the year.”
Wendy Payne, Marketing Manager for Astor-Bannerman said:
“We are very proud to have worked with the team at Manchester City Football Club to help them include a Changing Places toilet facility into the Etihad Stadium. This makes Manchester City the 4th UK Premier League Football Club to have a Changing Places for their disabled supporters and families following in the footsteps of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City – all of which were Astor-Bannerman/Aveso projects as sponsors of the Changing Places campaign.”
Wendy continued,
“Astor-Bannerman are already working with other Premier League clubs to install Changing Places toilets and we hope that ALL Premier League clubs will show the same commitment in the coming months.”
The Etihad Stadium Changing Places Specification
This facility is built in line with the British Standard BS:8300 Code of Practice Access to Buildings and is 12sqm to allow space for 2 carers and a large adult wheelchair and has the required specialist equipment including adjustable changing bench in team colours, ceiling track hoist and height adjustable wash basin as well as a fully accessible DocM shower area for those who need to use one.
The new facility officially opened in October 2016 at the home game 1 – 1 drawn with Everton and means the Club can better meet the needs of supporters who require accessible toilets at the home of the ‘Blues’.
Commenting on the Club’s progress, Disabled Access Officer, Dan Lovesy said:
“Manchester City prides itself on being inclusive and working with all our supporters to provide a safe and welcoming environment. We are delighted to have a changing places facility at the Etihad Stadium to ensure we cater for the needs of our supporters.”
Manchester City have made it clear that they are making ongoing enhancements and have a new dedicated Access Team focusing on improving stadium facilities and access for disabled supporters throughout the season. The new Changing Places facility is just part of their adaptations.
Rossanna Trudgian, co-chair of the Changing Places Consortium, is delighted with the opening of the Blues’ new facility and commented:
“Manchester City can be proud of the investment that the club has made in providing these facilities for those who need them. It is fantastic to see more and more Changing Places toilets being installed at Premier League Football Clubs.”
The timing is great for Manchester City as in October 2016, the Minister for disabled people, Penny Mordaunt MP, met with the Premier League at the Olympic Stadium and issued a call to all Premier Leagues Clubs to install Changing Places at their venues by the end of the season which means pressure will increase for all football clubs across the UK.
