Sustainability FAQs
What is Astor Bannerman doing to be more sustainable?
We are actively reducing our environmental impact through initiatives such as installing solar panels at our factory, improving waste management to move towards zero landfill, and designing products for longevity and recyclability. We are also ISO14001 certified, demonstrating our commitment to environmental management, and are working on reducing emissions from business transport and product manufacturing.
Are Astor Bannerman products made from sustainable materials?
We prioritise recyclable and responsibly sourced materials wherever possible. However, as we manufacture medical devices, we must meet strict safety and durability standards, which can limit the use of recycled content. That said, materials like aluminium and steel in our products contain significant recycled content and can be widely recycled.
What happens to your products at the end of their life?
Our products are designed to last 10+ years, reducing the need for frequent replacements. Many components can be recycled, and we are actively exploring ways to improve repair, refurbishment, and take-back schemes to extend product lifecycles further.
How does Astor Bannerman ensure suppliers meet sustainability standards?
We work closely with suppliers to encourage responsible sourcing and reduce waste, and we are developing a supplier code of conduct to strengthen our approach.
Does Astor Bannerman measure and reduce its carbon footprint?
Yes, we are developing a comprehensive plan to measure and reduce our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, ensuring we address our direct operations as well as our supply chain and product impact.
What are you doing to reduce waste and energy use?
We have solar panels generating renewable energy for our factory and are working towards zero waste to landfill. We are also optimising manufacturing to reduce plastic waste and unnecessary energy consumption.
Does the company support employees in making sustainable choices?
Yes! We offer initiatives such as the bike-to-work scheme, on-site EV charging, remote working, and internal sustainability awareness campaigns to help employees make greener choices.
